Cards are looking for their first ACC win of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After nearly 12 days off, the Louisville women's soccer team gets back in action this week as another road game is on deck. Louisville is heading to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech Thursday night. The Cards and Hokies are set to face off from Thompson Field at 7 p.m. ET and it will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
The Cardinals last game was on September 14 in their ACC opener at Pittsburgh. Defender Karsyn Cherry continued to add the scoring touch as she connected on a penalty kick in the first half. It was her team-leading sixth goal of the year and it leveled the score for the Cards. She leads the ACC among defenders with six goals and is tied for sixth overall in the league. Coming into the season, Cherry had scored just three goals over 32 career games played.
This will just be the fourth road game of the season for the Cards as they have played a majority of their games at home so far. Louisville is 1-1-1 on the road this season with a win at Northern Kentucky, a draw at Cincinnati and a defeat at Pitt in their last game. Cherry has scored in two the three road games this season, Amelia Swinarski scored her first career goal on the road and Amber Jackson tallied her third of the year on the road.
This will be the ninth meeting all time between the two schools and the Cardinals hold a 4-2-2 series advantage. The two teams have not met since the 2020 season, a 1-0 victory for the Cards in Blacksburg. Louisville has a strong record in games played in Blacksburg, as they are 2-0-1 all-time.
Following the Cards road trip to Blacksburg, they will return to Louisville for their first home game in three weeks. Louisville will host NC State from Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on Sunday, September 29.
