Louisville is 1-0 after upset of No. 3 Wisconsin
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team will face No. 15 Tennessee at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center. The match will be televised on ESPN2.Â

The Cardinals are coming off an upset win over No. 3 Wisconsin on Tuesday night as part of the AVCA First Serve Showcase. Charitie Luper had 11 kills and Anna DeBeer added 10 to lead Cards to a 3-1 upset of No. 3 Wisconsin. The Cardinals move to 1-0 on the season with the 18-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-20 win. The victory marks the first win over UW since 1985 and was a rematch of the NCAA National Semifinals in 2021 when the Badgers won 3-2. Cara Cresse added eight kills and six blocks with Sofia Maldonado Diaz adding 11 kills. Elena Scott added a match-high 22 digs. UofL hit .166 as a team with 10 blocks and two aces.

A Peek at the Cards
- UofL put up an ACC record of 15-3, finishing third and made the Cards' fourth trip to the Elite Eight, ninth trip to the Sweet Sixteen and 32nd NCAA appearance.
- ACC Year End Awards included Player of the Year Anna DeBeer and Defensive Player of the Year: Elena Scott. DeBeer was also named AVCA East Region Player of the Year. Elle Glock, Charitie Luper, Aiko Jones, Cara Cresse and Elena Scott were voted to the First Team and Phekran Kong was voted HM All-East Region.
- The Cardinals return five starters and their libero to the 2024 roster.
- Louisville was picked to finish third in the ACC preseason poll behind Pitt and Stanford. Cara Cresse, Anna DeBeer, Charitie Luper and Elena Scott were named to the Preseason All-ACC team.
A View of the Vols
- No. 15 Tennessee will play No. 7 Penn State at home Friday night before heading to the Ville on Sunday to face the No. 5 CardinalsÂ
- Only Caroline Kerr and Kiki Granberry return in their starting roles as the Lady Vols lost five starters from a year ago.  UT added nine new players with their signing class and through the transfer portal.  Â
- The Lady Vols open the season ranked No. 15, their best start since 2012 and are coming off one of the best seasons in program history. UT has been ranked in the preseason poll 10 times in the program's history, with the most recent occasion coming in 2019. That year, the Tennessee ranked 19th to kick off the campaign.
- Last year, Tennessee was a mainstay in the national rankings, reaching as high as eighth and ending the year at No. 9 overall.
- Caroline Kerr emerged as as one of the best setters in the country last year, and earned a spot on the 2024 Preseason Volleyball All-SEC Team. During the 2023 campaign, Kerr received All-America Second Team recognition from AVCA and was a Fourth Team selection by VolleyballMag.com. The Champaign, Illinois, native ranked third nationally, second in the SEC and led all NCAA freshmen in assists per set at 11.75, recording 14 40-assist efforts and five 50-assist performances.
