Jayden Ulrich posts a runner-up finish at the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Louisville's Jayden Ulrich posted a second place finish in the women's discus throw at the United States Track & Field Olympic Team Trials with a throw of 62.63 (205-5) Thursday evening at Hayward Field.
The rising senior from East Alton, Illinois is in contention to be named to the USA Track & Field National Team for the 2024 Paris Olympics pending qualification in the final World Athletic rankings.
Ulrich's silver medal throw came on her fourth attempt of the evening, besting 2024 NCAA champion Veronica Fraley's third-place mark of 62.54 (205-2). Valarie Allman, the reigning Olympic women's discus throw champion won the 2024 Olympic Trials with a throw of 70.73 (232-0).
Ulrich qualified for Thursday's final with a throw of 63.61m (208-8) in Monday's first round. After a foul on her initial attempt, she quickly moved into second place in the standings with her next throw, a mark which surpassed her 2024 NCAA runner-up result - also achieved at Hayward Field.
The 2024 USTFCCCA Southeast Regional Women's Field Athlete of the Year and ACC Women's Field Performer of the Year has eclipsed the 60-meter mark in the discus in seven meets on the year while setting a new school record of 64.29m in April which ranks among the top 10 in collegiate history.
Ulrich will return to action at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Friday at 10:15 p.m. (ET) when she competes in the shot put. Earlier this month at the NCAA championship meet, Ulrich also placed fourth nationally in the women's shot put, becoming the first female in school history to finish in the top-five at the same national meet in multiple individual events.
