June 14, 2025 | Track & Field
The men’s team finished the meet with 13 points, their highest total since 2010.
EUGENE, Ore. – University of Louisville men's track & field freshman Geoffrey Kirwa finished as the national runner-up in the men's 3000m steeplechase to lead the way for the Cards on Friday at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The native of Kapsabet, Kenya ran a gutsy race from the front of the pack, crossing the line in 8:17.12 to secure eight points for the Cardinals and post the best individual finish by a Louisville male in any event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 2017.
With Kirwa's runner-up finish and KJ Byrd's fourth-place showing in the men's decathlon, the Louisville men finished the meet in a tie for 23rd with 13 points, their best finish in the team standings since 2017 and their best point total as a unit since 2010.
The Cards also got yet another All-American honor in the men's triple jump, as Roman Kuleshov finished out his breakthrough season by leaping 15.35m (50-4.5), which was good for 16th place and Second Team All-American distinction.
Along with the conclusion of the men's competition, Lucy Fellows kicked off her first career appearance at the national championship meet in the women's heptathlon. The sophomore posted a wind-aided 100m hurdles time of 14.23 (+2.9), a clearance of 1.66m (5-5.25) in the high jump, a toss of 12.76m (41-10.5), and a 200m time of 24.62 to close the first day of action in 16th place with 3,385 points.
