LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kokoro Nakazawa tallied a career-high seven goals this afternoon in leading the Louisville women's lacrosse team to a 22-10 win over Ohio State. This is the most goals scored by the Cardinals since a 22-8 win over Butler on March 1, 2022.
Ten different Cards scored with multi-goal showings from Nicole Perroni (4), Allegra Catalano (3), and Kylea Dobson (2).
"It was the tale of two halves," said Head Coach Scott Teeter. "We challenged the team at halftime to step it up. All we wanted was for them to compete, and we did that in the second half."
Louisville started off slower than anticipated after a free position goal by Kokoro Nakazawa came at 10:47 in the first quarter. Ohio State's Zoe Coleman responded with one of her own but Dobson and Catalano scored back-to-back goals for the Cards. Perroni capped off the first quarter with an unassisted shot and Louisville was up 4-2 after the first 15 minutes.
The Buckeyes scored four goals in the second quarter, led by Kampbell Stone who had three on the day. Kokoro Nakazawa and Abby Scully got the Cards back on the board but Ohio State's Leah Sax and Kate Tyack scored back-to-back goals to get within one goal late in the first half. Kokoro scored again and Louisville was up 8-6 going into the locker room at half.
The Cardinals came out for the second half with a much-needed spark, outscoring Ohio State 14-4 in the final 30 minutes of action. Lauren Figas got on the board in the third quarter on an assist from Kokoro. The Cards went on a five-goal run that spanned 5:13 in the fourth quarter before Jamie Lasda scored for the Buckeyes. Ava Peers closed out the game with an unassisted shot with less than a minute to play.
"We went in with confidence," said junior midfielder Lauren Figas. "We worked well together and had good tempo throughout the game. We talked as a team that we would have no regrets and I feel like we were able to play well with that mindset."
Perroni grabbed two caused turnovers, reaching 100 total for her career. She is seven shy of the school record at 107.
Louisville will close out the regular season with two conference games, first traveling to No. 25 Duke on Friday, April 12. The opening draw will take place at 3 p.m. ET and can be watched on the ACCNX.
