Cardinals Travel to Virginia Tech for First Round of the ACC Tournament

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The ninth-seeded University of Louisville women's lacrosse team will travel to eight-seed Virginia Tech to play in the first round of the 2024 ACC Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday, April 21. The game is scheduled for 12 p.m. (noon) ET and will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
LAST MEETING
The two teams met in Louisville at the beginning of the regular season, which ended in a 14-10 loss for the Cardinals. Nicole Perroni and Kokoro Nakazawa recorded hat tricks and Perroni led with six draw controls, added two ground balls and a caused turnover. Goalkeeper Sara Addeche recorded eight saves in 60:00 minutes at the net. Virginia Tech's Olivia Vergano led all scorers with five goals and also added five draw controls. The Hokies' goalie, Jocelyn Torres recorded nine saves for the Hokies.
NOTING THE 2024 SEASON
The Cardinals closed out the 2024 regular season at home on Thursday, April 18 with a 23-10 loss against No. 3 Notre Dame. Louisville will finish their regular season at 2-7 in the ACC and head into the ACC Tournament as the 9-seed. Prior to the loss against Notre Dame, Louisville fell on the road to No. 25 Duke, No. 5 Syracuse and No. 12 North Carolina but recorded their second ACC win, upsetting No. 20 Clemson (13-12). The Cards grabbed their first ACC win at Pitt (19-11) but dropped their first conference game of the season at home to Virginia Tech, 14-10.
Kokoro Nakazawa has tallied 57 goals, 21 assists, and 78 points in 18 games. She leads the team in all three categories. She is ninth in the ACC in assists (21), first in free position goals per game (1.00), third in goals (57), and third in points (78). Her 78 points ranks sixth nationally and her 57 goals ranks eighth in the country.
Perroni is dominating on both sides of the field this season. This season, she has tallied 41 goals and eight assists. She is second in the conference (12th nationally) in caused turnovers per game with 2.29, first in the ACC (ninth nationally) in free position goals per game with 1.00, and first in the ACC in ground balls per game with 2.53.
Sara Addeche has continued to guard the net through 17 games, proving herself as one of the best keepers in the country. She has recorded 146 saves and a .405 save percentage in 898:54 minutes at the net. She ranks first in the ACC and 11th nationally in saves and is first in the conference in saves per game this season with 8.59. Addeche recorded her eighth game of the season with double-digit saves on April 18 against Notre Dame, tallying 11 saves. This marked her 14th career game with 10 or more saves and added to her 342 career-save total, which is second in program history and six saves away from tying the program record.
