Cards Close Regular Season with Loss to Third-Ranked Notre Dame

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Eight different Cardinals scored this afternoon but No. 3 Notre Dame (14-2, 7-2 ACC) exploded for eight third-quarter goals to lead the Fighting Irish to a 23-10 win over the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team (7-10, 2-8 ACC).
Louisville closes out their regular season with a 7-10 overall record and a 2-8 ACC record. The Cardinals will learn their post-season fate this evening at the conclusion of the Clemson and Pitt game at 4 p.m. ET.Â
The Cards started off steady, scoring three goals in the first frame to put themselves within one goal. Abby Scully, Izzy Seikel and Maggie McMahon scored one apiece to round out the first quarter. Louisville's Rian Adkins started off the second quarter with a goal but Notre Dame went on a three-goal run to build momentum. McMahon had her second goal of the day and Kokoro Nakazawa scored her 100th career goal but the Cards were down 9-6 going into the second half.Â
Louisville opened up the quarter with two goals from Allegra Catalano and Nicole Perroni but the Irish went on an eight-goal run to secure the game. Kokoro had her second goal to start the final frame and freshman Reese Whiteman scored her first career goal in the final seconds of action.Â
Notre Dame outscored the Cards 14-4 in the second half, with a season-high seven goals from Kasey Choma.Â
Goalie Sara Addeche recorded her eighth game of the season with double digit saves, tallying 11 this afternoon.Â
Louisville will play in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Sunday, April 21 against either Virginia Tech or Clemson. The bracket will be released following Clemson's 4 p.m. game at Pitt.Â
