Louisville extended its winning streak with the win on Saturday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team kept rolling with a 10-2 victory over Northwestern on Saturday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (10-4) extended its winning streak to 10 straight with the win, reaching double figures for the ninth time during the stretch.
The Cardinals will go for the weekend sweep on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for noon ET.
Saturday's contest was a pitchers' duel for the first half of the day. Evan Webster kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard for the first five innings while the Cards were held scoreless for the first four.
However, the scoreless battle came to an end in the bottom of the fifth.
Alex Alicea got things started with a one-out infield single before Zion Rose drew a walk. Isaac Humphrey then put the Cardinals on the board with an opposite field knock.
Rose would come around to score the second run on a wild pitch before Brandon Anderson laced a single into right field for two more runs. Eddie King Jr. singled with the bases loaded to plate two runs and Alicea capped off the inning with his second hit of the frame, a run-scoring double into right.
In total, the Cardinals plated seven runs in the frame, their second highest total in an inning this season.
Northwestern (5-7) ended the shutout bid with a solo home run in the sixth, but Louisville answered with three runs in the bottom half.
Gavin Kilen hit a two-run home run, his third consecutive game with a long ball, and Matt Klein followed with a missile over the right-centerfield wall for his first of the season.
Evan Webster (2-0) finished his day with just one run allowed over six innings for his second victory of the season. Webster's scoreless streak reached 13 innings before giving up the solo home run in the sixth.
Justin West struck out a pair in two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Kilen, Klein and Alicea each had two hits to lead the Louisville offense.
