Louisville drops to 6-7 (2-4 ACC) and Syracuse (9-3) remains undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 ACC record.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Kokoro Nakazawa recorded her 10th hat trick of the season as the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team fell to No. 5 Syracuse, 22-12 this afternoon.
Louisville drops to 6-7 (2-4 ACC) and Syracuse (9-3) remains undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 ACC record.
"We were within striking distance in the first half," said Head Coach Scott Teeter. "I think we executed well on offense and got some good defensive stops by forcing turnovers early."
The Cards were off to a fast start with a strong first quarter performance. Four different players scored and Louisville was down 6-4 after 15 minutes.
Rian Adkins scored midway through the second quarter to get within one goal but the Orange responded with one of their own. Allegra Catalano followed with a goal with five minutes to go in the half but Syracuse went on a 6-1 run in the third quarter that secured the game for the Orange.
Kokoro added two goals in less than two minutes and Tiffany Natoli and Izzy Seikel had one apiece to round out the final quarter. Catalano, Seikel, and Adkins each ended with two goals this afternoon.
Sara Addeche had five saves in over 47 minutes at the goal, recording her 300th career save in the first half.
"We need to focus more on playing on our toes and dictating the game defensively," said Coach Teeter. "If we force the other team to make mistakes, we will be alright going forward."
Syracuse's Emma Tyrrell led all scorers today with five goals and Katelyn Mashewske was dominant on the draw with 16 total draw controls.
Louisville will return home to play Virginia for senior day on Saturday, April 6. The opening draw is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET and will be broadcast on the ACC Network, the third and final nationally televised game for the Cards this season.
