Cardinals Travel to No. 12 North Carolina on Saturday

Louisville is 0-10 all-time against the Tar Heels.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team will face their third-straight ranked ACC opponent when they travel to play No. 12 North Carolina on Saturday, March 23. The opening draw will take place at 11 a.m. ET and will be streamed on the ACCNX.
SERIES HISTORY
This marks the 11th meeting between the Tar Heels and the Cardinals. Louisville has never won a game against North Carolina (0-10).
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville is coming off of their third-straight road victory, winning 11-8 at Liberty on Thursday, March 21.
Kokoro Nakazawa recorded her eighth hat trick of the season, Ava Peers scored her first collegiate goal and Madi McKee tallied her first goal of the season in the win. Most recently, Louisville recorded their second ACC win, upsetting No. 20 Clemson, 13-12. The Cards grabbed their first ACC win at Pitt (19-11) but dropped their first conference game of the season at home to Virginia Tech, 14-10.
ABOUT THE TAR HEELS
The Tar Heels are coming off a tough 20-5 loss at seventh-ranked Syracuse on March 16. It was the worst loss in program history. It was also the first time UNC has allowed 20+ goals and lost by 10+ goals since a 21-9 defeat to Northwestern On May 4, 2009. Despite the outcome, Emily Nalls proved her versatility as a defender by recording one assist, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
North Carolina is ranked No. 12 in this week's ILWomen/IWLCA poll and No. 15 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. The team has been ranked in the top-12 all season by IWLCA.
Through games on March 17, the Tar Heels ranks fourth in the country with 9.0 assists per game. Ashley Humphrey's 27 assists and Wurzburger's .679 shot percentage both rank sixth nationally.
KEY PLAYERS
Kokoro Nakazawa, a senior from Yokohama, Japan, has tallied 33 goals, 14 assists, and 47 points in the first ten games of 2024. She leads the team in all three categories. She is ninth in the ACC in assists (12), first in free position goals per game (1.44), fourth in goals (30), and sixth in points (43). Her 43 points and 30 goals ranks 20th nationally and her free position goals per game ranks fifth nationally.
Nicole Perroni is continuing to dominate halfway through the season. Through the first ten games, she has tallied 26 goals and six assists on 65 shots. She is second in the conference (seventh nationally) in caused turnovers per game with 2.44, second in the ACC (seventh nationally) in free position goals per game with 1.33, and fourth in the ACC in draw controls per game with 6.00. Perroni scored three goals in the win over No. 20 Clemson, marking her 24th career hat-trick. She tallied three goals in the loss over No. 3 Boston College and had four goals each in the win at Pitt, against Virginia Tech, in the win over Marquette and against Colorado.
