March 23, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team had its two-game winning streak stopped with a 18-12 loss to No. 12 North Carolina on Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The loss drops the Cards to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Tar Heels improve to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.
"Overall, we didn't compete for the full 60 minutes," said Head Coach Scott Teeter. "Credit to North Carolina for making the adjustment in goal early and for competing well on the draw."
Nicole Perroni and Kylea Dobson each recorded multiple goals for the Cardinals, scoring four and two goals, respectively, to pace the Cardinals. Sara Addeche recorded five saves in goal. Kokoro Nakazawa scored a goal and added a team high three assists.
Kokoro Nakazawa put the Cards on the board just 30 seconds into the game with her 34th goal of the season. The lead was short lived as the Tar Heels took a 2-1 lead before Perroni extended her scoring streak to 47-straight games to knot the contest at 2-2 with 10:50 remaining in the first quarter.
After the Tar Heels took a 4-2 lead, the Cards battled back with a goal by Perroni to make it 4-3. Louisville would tie the contest at 5-5 with 3:01 left in the first period by Dobson.
The Tar Heels lead 6-5 after the first quarter before Perroni notched her third goal of the first half to equal the match at 6-6. UNC would take over the game with the next five goals to take an 11-6 advantage with 8:22 left in the half. Dobson broke the string with her second marker of the half to make it 11-7. After two more from UNC, Izzy Seikel scored with one second left to close the half trailing 13-8.
The Cardinals tallied four second half goals, including the first goal of the season by Abby Scully.
"That was a great play by Abby Scully to secure the goal," said Coach Teeter. "She played a huge role in increasing our team's tempo and had a great offensive possession."
The Cards return to action on Wednesday, March 27, hosting non-conference foe Xavier at 7 p.m. at L&N Stadium.
