Louisville will return to action Friday afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. matchup against host FAU. The Cards prevailed 2-1 in the teams' Thursday night matchup.
Â
After a scoreless first inning, the Cardinals put up three runs in the top of the second. Vanessa Miller drew a one-out walk and crossed the plate on a double by Ally Alexander. Chelsea Mack followed with an RBI single. An error sent Mack home to make the score 3-0.
Â
The Pirates (0-2) had a chance to score in the home half of the second when back-to-back hits and a groundout placed runners at second and third, but second baseman Ally Alexander made a diving catch and recovered for a throw to Riley Frizell at first base to end the inning.
Â
Louisville tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning courtesy of Maddi Grant's two-run triple. Bailee Richardson got the offense started with a two-out walk and Frizell reached on an error to put two on for Maddi Grant who connected on a triple scoring Richardson and pinch-runner Mia Forsythe.
Â
Seton Hall used four hits and an error to put up a four-spot in the home half of the fifth to make the score 5-4.
Â
The Cards countered with seven runs in the top of the sixth. Miller was hit by a pitch to start the frame. A walk to Alexander and bunt single by Pickle Winkler loaded the bases for Kiley Goff whose fielder's choice saw Miller safe at the plate. Hess delivered a two-run single and Richardson walked to load the bases for Frizell's sacrifice fly. One out later, Paige Geraghty's ripped a two-run single. In her second at bat of the inning, Miller singled to bring home Geraghty, extending Louisville's lead to 12-4.
Â
Sam Booe (1-0) picked up the win, holding the Pirates scoreless on four hits in 4.2 innings of work. Alexander went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Hess also had two hits and two RBIs as the Cards tallied a season-high 11 hits in the game.
