
Women Claim Fourth Place at Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational

Ian Kibiwot placed fourth overall in the men’s 8K to lead the way for the men’s team.
CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Louisville cross country teams competed at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course in Chicago on Friday morning.
In a tightly contested field that featured three nationally-ranked teams, the Louisville women placed fourth as a team with a total of 121 points in their first meet over 6K on the season.
After making her collegiate debut three weeks ago at the Southern Showcase, Nancy Chepleting led the charge for the Cardinals, crossing the line in 10th place with a time of 19:54.92 as one of three Louisville women in the top-15. Layla Roebke was just behind Chepleting, placing 11th overall in 19:55.96, while Rylee Penn claimed 13th place with a final time of 20:04.46.
Maddie Seaby finished 36th overall in 20:33.67, and Heidi Meade leapt into the scoring five for the first time in her career, recording a time of 20:47.14 to place 51st.
On the men's side, Ian Kibiwot posted his second straight top-five finish to begin the campaign, placing fourth with an 8K time of 22:50.25.
Geoffrey Kirwa dropped nearly 40 seconds off his time at the Southern Showcase in his collegiate debut, racing to a time of 23:43.93 for 26th place.
Gustav Bendsen placed 61st in 24:16.96, nearly a minute faster than his season-opening time in Huntsville, and Innocent Ntwali finished 91st in 24:37.17. Jack Stansell rounded out the Louisville scorers with a time of 24:52.78 to place 104th.
Keyed by Kibiwot's fourth-place finish, the Louisville men placed 11th in the team standings with a final tally of 266 points.
The Louisville cross country teams will continue their split weekend tomorrow morning, when the Cardinals compete at the Live in Lou Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville. The men's 8K will get the morning started at 9:30 a.m. ET with the women's 5K to follow at 10:15 a.m. ET.
