Cards Cap Split Weekend at Live in Lou Classic

Brooke Lahee and Ellie Maurer both broke the 18-minute barrier in the women’s 5K, while Jacob Puhalla clocked a time of 25:49.4 in the men’s 8K.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville cross country teams wrapped up their split weekend on Saturday morning at the Live in Lou Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.
The Louisville women were led by Brooke Lahee and Ellie Maurer, who crossed the line in tandem to place 50th and 51st while recording 5K times of 17:53.4 and 17:53.7, respectively.
Megan John was third through the tape for the Cards in 18:55.6, while Audrey Shelton (19:25.6) and Lily Storey (19:35.9) rounded out the Louisville women in the field to cap off their collegiate cross country debuts.
On the men's side, Jacob Puhalla was the first man through with an 8K time of 25:49.4, two minutes than his time from last season's Live in Lou Classic.
Ryan Farrell kicked to a time of 26:02.8 with Chip Smith following close behind in 26:09.7. Mateo Mendez posted a time of 26:32.7, and JB Terrill was the fifth and final Louisville scorer after covering the 8K course in 27:29.4.
The women's squad placed 23rd in the team standings while the men's team finished 25th overall.
The Cards will take a two-week break from competition before returning to action at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on Oct. 19, which will take place at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wisc., the site of the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
