The pair earned top 20 finishes at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational to earn the nod
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of Louisville cross country standouts Elsingi Kipruto and Nancy Chepleting have been named ACC Cross Country Performers of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
It's the fourth weekly cross country honor for Kipruto, adding to his yearly awards and the five weekly honors he earned in track and field. It is also the second ACC weekly honor for Chepleting, joining her Freshman of the Week recognition on Sept. 17, 2024.
The two were recognized by the conference after battling a crowded field of 39 combined ranked teams at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 9.
Kipruto was the program's highest finisher, nearly capturing an individual win. His third-place finish in the 8K championship came just a second shy of the winner, Meshack Kipruto of Colorado. It's the second time in as many races this season that Kipruto has finished in the top three, joining his runner-up finish at the John McNichols Invitational on Sept. 19.
Chepleting led Louisville's women's team with a 17th-place finish in the women's 6K championship. She also notched a 13th-place finish at the John McNichols Invitational.
The pair, and Louisville cross country, will return later this month with eyes on conference headlines again on Oct. 30 for the ACC Cross Country Championships in Blacksburg, Va. Kipruto earned ACC Freshman of the Year after finishing third last year at the event, while Chepleting will look to improve on her team-best 47th-place finish.
