
Kipruto Punches Ticket to NCAA Cross Country Championships

The freshman finished as the Southeast Regional runner-up to lead the men’s team to their best finish at the regional meet since 2015.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Louisville men's cross country freshman Elsingi Kipruto qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Friday morning, finishing as the Southeast Regional runner-up with a 10K time of 29:19.6.
With the performance, the ACC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year tied the best individual finish at the regional meet for a Louisville male in program history and the best since Edwin Kibichiy also claimed the silver in 2015.
In addition, Kipruto led the Louisville men to their best team finish at the regional meet since winning the meet in 2015, placing sixth in the team standings with a total of 177 points, putting themselves in position to potentially secure an at-large team bid to the national championship meet. The NCAA DI Men's and Women's Cross Country Subcommittee will announce 13 at-large team selections and two at-large individual selections to the NCAA Championships via a selection show on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 5:00 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
Sophomore Geoffrey Kirwa earned his consecutive All-Region nod with a 22nd-place finish after racing to a time of 30:13.5, while Ian Kibiwot placed 24th in 30:17.4 to earn All-Region distinction for the first time since 2022.
Along with the trio of All-Region performers, the Louisville men also got a pair of personal-best performances in their scoring five from Gustav Bendsen, who placed 53rd in 30:56.7, and Spenser Wolf, who clocked a time of 31:20.1 to place 76th.
The Louisville women placed 11th in the team standings with a total of 305 points, led by Emma McGill's 37th-place finish with a 6K time of 20:27.2.
Eliza Nicholson finished as the team runner-up in 46th place to close her freshman campaign on the cross country course with a time of 20:34.5, and Nancy Chepleting followed in 20:49.8 to place 60th individually.
Maddie Seaby placed 81st in 21:14.9, while Haley Meade closed out the Louisville scorers with a time of 21:19.6 on her way to a 86th-place finish.
Next up, Kipruto will return to the course one final time in 2025 for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, which are set to take place on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Columbia, Mo. The men's 10K will begin at 11:10 a.m. ET.
