
Cross Country Set for Split Weekend

The team will split between the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4 and the Live in Lou Classic on Saturday, Oct. 5.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville cross country teams are set to resume competition this weekend with the team splitting between a pair of meets.
Half of the team will race at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Ill. on Friday, Oct. 4, while the rest of the team will toe the line at the Live in Lou Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park on Saturday, Oct. 4.
The Cardinals will field 11 women and 10 men at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, which will take place at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course in Chicago. The women's 6K will begin at 11:00 a.m. ET with the men's 8K slated to follow at 11:40 a.m. ET.
Saturday morning will see the Cards compete in Louisville at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park at the annual Live in Lou Classic, hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission. Five women and seven men will take the course for Louisville, with the men's 8K set to begin at 9:30 a.m. ET and the women's 5K to follow at 10:15 a.m. ET.
The Cardinals return to competition three weeks after making their season debut on Sept. 13 at the Southern Showcase, where the women's team finished as the runner-up and the men's team placed sixth.
Layla Roebke and Nancy Chepleting led the way for the Cards in Huntsville, recording a pair of top-five individual finishes as the Louisville women earned five of the top 25 spots. On the men's side, Ian Kibiwot finished as the individual runner-up while Geoffrey Kirwa placed 16th overall.
Following the Southern Showcase, the Cardinals swept the ACC Freshmen of the Week awards with Chepleting being named the ACC Women's Freshman of the Week and Kirwa being tabbed the ACC Men's Freshman of the Week.
