Cards survive five-setter
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Senior Anna DeBeer had a season-high 23 kills and 11 digs to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-2 win over No. 21 Florida State Friday night in Tully Gym.

The Cardinals snapped FSU's 17-match home winning streak with the 16-25, 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 15-9 victory and improved to 13-2 on the season and remain unbeaten in ACC play at 5-0.

UofL hit .295 for the match with four aces and 10 blocks and survived a harrowing 15 service errors. DeBeer was joined in double digit kills by Charitie Luper, who had 12 and added an ace and a block to her tally. Phekran Kong was back in form with seven kills on 11swings, hitting .636 with four blocks. Elena Scott tallied a team-high 12 digs and Cara Cresse further aided the defense with six blocks.

FSU drops to 11-4 on the season and is now 3-2 in the league. The Seminoles were led by Audrey Koenig's 22 kills and three aces. Taylor Head added 15 kills and 12 digs and Kelsey Perry had five blocks. The Noles hit .241 for the match with nine aces and nine blocks.
The Cardinals head to Miami for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Hurricanes in Coral Gables on Sunday.Â

In the first set, the Cardinals stayed close early, tying for the sixth time at 8-8. After trading points, the Cards let the momentum swing to the  Seminoles, who went on a 5-0 run to go up 19-13. FSU, hitting .417,  closed out the set on a 6-3 run to take a one-set lead with the 25-16 win. Â

In the second set, UofL tied at eight on a kill by Anna DeBeer and took its first lead of the set at 9-8 on another DeBeer score. After trading points, Louisville ran off six straight points to go up 16-10. The Seminoles chipped away at the lead and pulled within three at 20-17. UofL reached set point at 24-18 on a kill by Charitie Luper but it took four tries and a timeout before the Cards pulled out the 25-21 win.

In the third set, UofL popped out to a 9-6 lead which sparked a Florida State timeout. The Seminoles closed the deficit, pulling within one at 17-16 but the Cards snapped back with two straight to take a 19-16 lead. After an FSU timeout, UofL reached set point on a kill by DeBeer. After a Louisville error and a kill by FSU's Audrey Koenig, the Cards found themselves struggling to close out the set. After calling timeout, DeBeer finally bounced the final point of the set for the 25-21 win.

In the fourth set, the two teams traded punches in a set that featured 13 ties and six lead changes. UofL had he lead at 11-9 after three FSU errors but a Cardinal service error closed the gap as the Seminoles tied at 14 on a kill by Kelsey Perry. The Cardinals lost the lead for good at 19-18 on an attack error as the Noles forced a fifth set with the 25-21 win.

In the fifth set, UofL used a 4-0 run to take an 8-5 lead at the switch. After an FSU timeout, at 11-9, UofL reeled off four straight points for the 15-9 win. Â The Cardinals were added by .611 hitting with two blocks in that set.
