No. 4 Cardinals Beat Miami 3-1

Cards stay unbeaten in the ACC at 6-0
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Outside hitter Anna DeBeer had 18 kills and a block to lead the No. 4-ranked University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over Miami in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action Sunday afternoon at Knights' Sports Complex.
The Cardinals stay unbeaten at 6-0 in the ACC with the 25-23, 25-17, 18-25, 25-20 win and are 14-2 on the season. UofL hit .226 for the match and landed six aces and 15 blocks. Sofia Maldonado Diaz had 10 kills, five digs and four blocks with Cara Cresse adding 10 blocks. Elena Scott had a season-high five aces and a team-high 14 digs.
The Hurricanes hit .168 for the match with one ace and 13 blocks. Grace Lopez shouldered the offensive load for the Cardinals with 25 kills on 47 swings, five digs and four blocks. Dalia Wilson had six blocks and Yaidaliz Rosado had 14 digs.
The Cardinals return home to L&N Federal Credit Union Arena next weekend to host Wake Forest 7 p.m. Friday and NC State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
In the first set, there were nine ties but only one lead change. The two teams traded points until the Cardinals finally took the lead at 15-14 on a hitting error by Flormarie Heredia Colon. UofL did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the set, using .387 hitting and four aces to keep the Hurricanes at bay as they survived with the 25-23 win.
In the second set, UofL used a 3-0 run that featured two kills by Anna DeBeer to take a 6-3 lead. But when the Canes tied at seven, Louisville answered with a 5-0 run to go up 12-7 with Elena Scott ripping off three straight aces from the Hurricanes. Louisville continued to spread the margin with a 4-0 run to go up 22-15 on a kill by Anna DeBeer. Louisville got to set point on a block by Cara Cresse and a Miami hitting error gave UofL the 25-17 win and a 2-0 set lead going into the break. UofL's hitting cooled to 133 in that set but three aces and four blocks kept the Cards on top.
In the third set, neither team could gain footing, although the Cards had a narrow 15-13 lead at the media timeout. Miami tied at 16 on a UofL hitting error and then regained the lead on a kill by Grace Lopez. After a Hurricane block, Louisville called timeout down 19-17. The Canes stayed hot and put together an 8-0 run and reached set point at 24-18. UM's Dalia Wilson got the winning kill for the 25-18 win and averted the sweep.
In the fourth set, UofL used a 3-0 run to take a 9-6 lead and forced the Canes to use their first timeout. The Cardinals ran off four, three points coming on DeBeer bouncing Hurricane overpasses to take a 16-10 lead and Miami burned its last timeout attempting to cool the Cards' hot hitting hand. UM made a push and closed the margin to four at 19-15. The Cardinals pushed to the end with a kill by Anna DeBeer ending the set and match at 25-20.
