LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville Cardinals have released their Swimming and Diving 2023-24 schedule for this season. The slate showcases seven home competitions including the annual Louisville Invitational to be hosted at Ralph Wright Natatorium.
The Cards will kick off the season against long-time regional opponent, the Musketeers of Xavier before heading into a split-squad weekend in Dallas, TX for the SMU Classic and Louisville, KY for a dual competition against the Auburn Tigers. At SMU, the altered format event features eight swimmers and one diver from each competing institution. Each swimmer may compete in three events per day, and events will be contested in two heats, with one swimmer from each school in each heat. Divers will compete on 1- and 3-meter.
The following week, the Cards head to the Volunteer state for an ACC/SEC clash against Tennessee on October 12.
Following a near month long training stint, the Cards will back at home to face the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame on Friday, November 3. The longtime rivalry between the Cards and Irish is even more interesting as former UofL coach Chris Lindauer is at the helm for the Irish. Joining Lindauer in South Bend are Cardinals Forever Kameron Chastain and Kelsi Dahlia. Last season, the Irish men finished 18th at the NCAA Championships.
The Cards then travel back north for the OSU Invite at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. The three day competition is set to mirror the postseason schedule with prelims and finals to follow. The Buckeyes placed 11th and 6th place respectively at last year's NCAA Championships.
After the Toyota US Long Course and the holiday break, the Cards are back at the Ralph Wright Natatorium to face the Tigers of Missouri. The MU men finished last season with a 16th place finish at the NCAA Championship with 62.5 points. The Tiger women's team looks to take a step forward this season where they will be fighting for points at the SEC and NCAA Championships.
Following the TYR Pro Series in Knoxville, TN, the Cards return home to face their in-state rival, the Wildcats of the University of Kentucky. Last season, the Wildcats edged the women Cards 168-132. Stronger than ever, the Cards will look to bounce back and take back bragging rights in the Bluegrass. Last season, the Louisville men bested the Wildcats 200-96 and will look to continue their success on January 27.
The following weekend, the Cards will return to a split-squad competition schedule where they will be competing at Indiana University and back home against the University of Cincinnati.
The Cardinals will close out the regular season with the annual Louisville Invitational at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. This will be a non-scoring meet and will give the Cards another chance to make final preparations for the postseason.
The ACC Championships will again be a combined event with the meet taking place in Greensboro, NC at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The women's NCAA Championship is slated to be held in Athens, GA with the men's meet following a week later in Indianapolis, IN.
