Second of three-straight home games for the Cards
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is back at home and set to welcome a Big Ten foe this Thursday. Illinois is making the trek down from Champaign to face off with the Cardinals at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra and this is the second of three-straight home games for the Cards.
The Cardinals are in the midst of a long stretch of games coming from the friendly confines of Lynn Stadium as five of the next six games will be at home, a stretch that runs through Thursday, September 21.
The Louisville defense has been on point through their first two home games of the season as they have recorded clean sheets in each game. In the season opener against Indiana State, the Cardinals did not allow a shot as they shutout the Sycamores. It was the first time since 2019 that the Cardinals did not allow a single shot in a game. In the most recent game against Northern Kentucky, the Cardinals allowed only four shots and kept the Norse off the scoreboard. It is the first time since 2020 that the Cardinals have not allowed a goal in each of their first two home games of the season.
This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the Illini and the Cardinals in a series that dates back to the 1998 season. Illinois leads the all-time series 6-0 and are 3-0 in games played in Louisville. This will be the first time the two teams have met since 2014 and it will be the Illini's first trip to Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Following the Thursday matchup with Illinois, the Cardinals will close out the three-game homestand on September 3 with a Sunday night match against Central Michigan.
