Louisville Falls to Virginia Tech 17-7

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Seven Cardinals scored as the University of Louisville lacrosse team fell 17-7 to Virginia Tech at Thompson Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals move to 4-9 on the season and 1-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference. Virginia Tech advanced to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in ACC play.
"We are struggling putting it all together," said head coach Scott Teeter. "We start the game with 3 defensive stops and turn the ball over on the clear. Then we keep getting into the card trouble. We need to go back to the basics and compete."
Virginia Tech was the first team on the board, but the Cardinals answered back with a free position goal from Rachel Lifson to tie the game. The Hokies scored two more to end the first quarter up 3-1.
The Hokies scored six unanswered goals in the second quarter.
Kokoro Nakazawa scored the first goal of the second half on an assist from her sister, Negai Nakazawa. Virginia Tech scored again but Lauren Figas answered back for the Cards. Alexa Steffens notched in a goal of her own off of an assist from Allegra Catalano. The Hokies scored four straight to end the third quarter up 15-4.
Virginia Tech earned another goal, but Negai Nakazawa scored for second game in the row. Allegra Catalano got in the scoring mix after knocking in a goal with less than seven minutes remaining. The Hokies scored another. Izzy Seikel notched a free position goal with 14 second left in the game.
Sara Addeche and J Pleck split time guarding the net and each recorded four saves.
Olivia Toll led the defense with four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Maggie Foster recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Madi McKee had a team high three draw controls.
Louisville hosts two games next week, facing Cincinnati on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET and Duke on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
