April 12, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
Five Different Cardinals scored two goals.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Led by four points from Nicole Perroni, the University of Louisville lacrosse program fell 13-12 in overtime to Cincinnati on Wednesday at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
The Cardinals move to 4-10 on the season, while the Bearcats advance to 10-5 overall.
"We battled back from a hole that we put ourselves in first half so that was a positive," said head coach Scott Teeter. "The girls responded at halftime. They responded with just keeping the game simple. In the first half, we were our worst enemy. We would get a defensive stop and turn the ball over in the clear. We were in our heads. The girls battled. Kudos to Cincinnati, they made two plays at the end that we could have made, and it could have been a different story. The positive is the battle back in the second half."
Cincinnati was the first team on the board with two goals. Izzy Holmes knocked in her first goal of the season on a free position attempt to cut the score to 2-1. Kokoro Nakazawa scored to tie the game 2-2. On an assist from Peyton Howell, Izzy Seikel earned her first goal of the game, but the Bearcats answered back to even the score 3-3 to end the first quarter.
The Bearcats scored two goals to start the second quarter before Seikel scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Alexa Steffens. Cincinnati was able to score four more goals in the second quarter, but Perroni dished an assist to Allegra Catalano to keep the Cards within four to end the half.
Catalano earned a second goal less than three minutes out of locker room. The Bearcats scored two straight, but the Cards answered back with two of their own. Kokoro Nakazawa scored with five minutes left and Holmes shot one in on an assist from Catalano to put UofL down three with one quarter remaining.
