Roby connects on NCAA-leading 20th homer of the season, File delivers her 10th home run of the year to help Louisville to its seventh-straight win
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball opened its final home weekend series with a 10-2 win over Boston College in six innings Friday evening at Ulmer Stadium. With their seventh-straight win, the Cardinals improve to 33-14 on the season and 14-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Â
Hannah File went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs and Taylor Roby registered her NCAA-leading 20th homer of the season to help lead the Cardinals at the plate. Alyssa Zabala (14-6) picked up the win, surrendering two earned runs on five hits and striking out three in five innings of work. Sam Booe retired all three batters she faced in the sixth.
Â
The Eagles (21-26, 3-16 ACC) used a pair of hits and an RBI groundout to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Â
The Cards answered in the bottom of the first when Easton Lotus walked and came around to score on a double by Daisy Hess.
Â
Hannah Slike's solo home run in the third put Boston College back on top, but the lead was short-lived as Roby led off the home half of the inning by sending a shot over the cardio path behind the centerfield fence to even the score. Sarah Gordon followed with a walk and moved into scoring position with Hess' second hit the game to set the table for File who sent an RBI single to the centerfield fence, giving the Cards a 3-2 lead.
Â
The fifth inning brought six more runs for Louisville highlighted by File's 10th homer of the season, a two-run shot over right field. Otis singled two more home, Lotus added an RBI triple and scored on a double by Gordon to give the Cards a 9-2 lead.
Â
Louisville capped the scoring in the sixth as File led off with her third hit of the game and Vanessa Miller was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for Ally Alexander whose walk-off RBI single sent pinch-runner Elana Ornelas home for the 10-2 final.
Â
Abby Dunning (10-10) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and striking out one in 2.2 innings.
Â
The teams will continue the series at 2 p.m. Saturday in an ACC Network-televised game.
