Cards Shut Out Boston College to Clinch Series on Senior Day

Louisville extends season-best win streak to eight games, win their fifth ACC series of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team defeated Boston College 8-0 to secure the series and extend its win streak to a season-best eight games Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium.

With the win, Louisville improves to 34-14 on the season and 15-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play while Boston College drops to 21-27 (3-17). Â The Cardinals have now won five of their seven ACC series this season.

Korbe Otis went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs including a walk-off two-run homer to send the Cardinals to the 8-0 five-inning win. Sarah Gordon went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs and Taylor Roby also had a pair of hits, extending her hitting streak to eight games and on-base streak to 13.

Roby (10-5) also notched the win in the circle while scattering two hits and striking out two in four innings. Taja Felder combined on the shutout with a scoreless inning of relief.

The teams played through a scoreless first inning before Gordon put the Cardinals on the scoreboard by leading off the bottom of the second inning with her ninth home run of the season. Louisville added a run in the fourth when Roby singled and was lifted for pinch runner Mia Forsythe to came around to score on a hit by Daisy Hess.

The Cards used four hits and two errors to tack on four more runs in the fifth with RBI hits coming from Otis, Easton Lotus and Roby to make the score 6-0.

Louisville's offense continued in the fifth when Paige Geraghty connected on a one-out hit to set the table for Otis who launched a shot over the centerfield fence for her ninth home run of the season to cap the scoring.

The teams will meet in the series finale Sunday at 12 p.m.

- With two runs in Saturday's game, Korbe Otis extends her single season run total to 59, moving into a tie for third with Melissa Roth (2010) on Louisville's all-time list. She needs three more to tie Katie Keller (2013) for second. Roth holds the record at 64 set in the 2009 season.
