Cards Register Second Straight Shutout to Sweep Boston College Series

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team wrapped up its home season with an 8-0 win over Boston College to complete the three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series sweep Sunday at Ulmer Stadium.

With the win, the Cardinals (35-15, 16-4 ACC) extend their win streak to nine games and earn their fifth ACC series sweep of the season. Boston College drops to 21-28 (3-18 ACC).

Taylor Roby connected on her 21st home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth inning, Easton Lotus went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Vanessa Miller scored a pair of runs to help lead the Cardinals at the plate. Four pitchers combined for the shutout with Gabby Holloway (5-1) earning the win after surrendering one hit and striking out four in two innings of relief.

The Cardinals broke through in the second inning when walks issued to Daisy Hess, Ally Alexander and Miller loaded the bases for Paige Geraghty's infield RBI single. Korbe Otis followed with a walk and Lotus delivered a two-run single to put Louisville on top 4-0.

Louisville put up another four-spot in the fourth. Miller opened the home half of the inning with her second walk of the contest and Lotus earned a two-out walk to set the table for Roby who launched a three-run moonshot over the scoreboard in left centerfield in her final at bat at Ulmer Stadium. Sarah Gordon followed with a walk to bring up Daisy Hess who ripped an RBI double the centerfield, bringing the final score to 8-0.

Cassie Grizzard retired all three batters in the fifth inning to finish the game.

Abby Dunning (10-11) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on two hits and striking out two in two innings. Abigail Knight and Aleyah Terrell each had a hit for the Eagles.

The Cardinals will conclude the regular season next weekend with a three-game series at No. 4/4 Florida State.

- Louisville's 16 ACC wins are tied for the most in program history since joining the league in 2015. That same season, the Cardinals finished the season with a 16-7 conference record.
- The Cardinals 35 wins are the most since 2019 when Louisville finished the season with a 35-23 record after reaching the final game of the Northwestern Regional.
- In 49 games, the Cardinals have produced 12 shutouts and 13 wins via the eight-run rule, including back-to-back run-rule shutouts against Boston College.
- The last time Louisville put together a nine-game win streak was in the 2022 season from March 5-March 18.
- With her home run in Sunday's game, Roby extends her school-record season total to 21 and career tally to 61. She also moves into a tie for the NCAA home run lead.
- Roby also improves her season RBI total to a career-best 54 and moves into a tie for third with Katie Keller (2013). She needs one more to tie Alicja Wolny (2013) for second. Maryssa Becker set the school record with 60 RBIs in the 2016 season.
- Roby is now on a nine-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 14 straight games.
- With two stolen bases in Sunday's game, Daisy Hess now has 24 on the season and moves to fifth on Louisville's single season list. She needs three more to tie Audrey Rendon (2005) for fourth. Sidney Melton set the record of 35 in the 2019 season.
