Louisville closed out the series with a 7-2 win on Sunday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The eighth-ranked University of Louisville baseball team picked up a 7-2 win in the series finale against No. 2 Wake Forest on Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (26-9, 8-7 ACC) improved to 58-16-1 in ACC finales since joining the league in 2015.
Wake Forest (31-5, 14-3) held a 2-0 lead after a run in the first and a solo homer in the sixth. However, the Louisville offense came to life in the bottom half of the sixth inning.
A walk and single put the tying runs on the corners with one out and JT Benson put the Cards in front with one swing. Benson's third home run of the year found the berm in left-centerfield and gave Louisville a 3-2 lead.
The Cardinals weren't done though, as they loaded up the bases without a ball leaving the infield and then consecutive hit-by-pitches pushed two more runs across.
Wake Forest got the tying runs into scoring position with two outs in the seventh, but Tate Kuehner picked up a strikeout to end the scoring threat.
Louisville tacked on two more in the seventh with RBIs from Will Cook and Eddie King Jr. and Kuehner took care of the rest.
Kuehner (2-0) pitched the final 3.1 innings without allowing a run to earn the victory. The southpaw struck out five in the win. Carson Liggett gave up just two runs over 5.2 innings in a no-decision effort.
Benson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Cardinals with Christian Knapczyk extending his hitting streak to nine with a 2-for-5 showing.
Louisville hits the road for the next five games beginning with Indiana on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET in Bloomington.
