Louisville Loses 7-3 at Indiana

Will Vierling hit his first career home run in the loss.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The 10th-ranked University of Louisville baseball team took a 7-3 loss at Indiana on Tuesday night in Bloomington.
For Louisville (26-10), it was just the second midweek loss of the season and third of the last two years.
After a pair of scoreless innings to start the night, Will Vierling opened the scoring with a long solo home run to right field. The long ball was the first of the freshman's career.
The lead didn't last long though, as Indiana (26-11) sent 10 men to the plate in the bottom of the third and scored five runs. The Hoosiers then added single runs in the fourth and sixth frames to lead 7-1 after six.
Louisville got a run back in the seventh as a misplay in the outfield allowed Ryan McCoy to score, and then another in the eighth on a run-scoring single from Patrick Forbes.
However, that was all the Cards would get in the loss.
Evan Webster (1-2) made his first career start on Tuesday night, facing the minimum through the first two innings. The southpaw ended with two earned allowed in 2.1 innings. The Cardinals got scoreless relief outings from Will Koger, Forbes and Alex Galvan.
Noah Smith turned in the lone multi-hit game for the Cards, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Louisville will return to conference play this weekend with three games at Duke. The series gets underway at 6 p.m. ET on Friday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
