Cards Drop Midweek Game at Indiana

Louisville comes up short in 10-5 loss at Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of Louisville softball team fell 10-5 to Indiana in a midweek contest Tuesday at Andy Mohr Field.

The Cardinals (25-13) will return to action Friday when they play host to Miami (Ohio) at Ulmer Stadium at 5 p.m.
In the game,Indiana went ahead early and maintained its lead despite multiple rallies by Louisville. Hannah File went 2-for-4 with a home run and scored a pair of runs to lead the Cardinals at the plate and Korbe Otis extended her reached-base streak to 31 with her ACC-leading seventh home run of the season. Alyssa Zabala (12-6) took the loss, surrendering six earned runs on four hits in 1.1 innings.

The Hoosiers (31-11) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on two hits and a walk to score three runs.
The Cards quickly countered in the next frame with Hannah File's solo shot over the left field fence to put Louisville on the board, but Indiana extended its lead to 6-1 with three more runs in the second.

Louisville continued to chip away at the lead, using two runs, an error and a wild pitch to plate three runs in the fourth. File connected on her second hit of the game and Daisy Hess earned her second walk to put two on for Makayla Hurst whose pinch hit single loaded the bases. A wild pitch sent File home and Hess crossed the plate on Madison "Pickle" Winkler's groundout to cut the lead to two runs.

The fourth inning brought two more Indiana runs with a pair of RBI hits in the fourth to make the score 8-4.

Once again, the Cardinals battled back in the fifth when Taylor Roby walked and was lifted for pinch runner Vanessa Miller who proceeded to steal second and came home on a triple by Hess, making the score 8-5.

Indiana plated a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 10-5 win.

Brianna Copeland (15-0) earned the win, holding the Cardinals scoreless on one hit and striking out four in 2.0 innings of relief. Sarah Stone paced the Hoosiers offensively, going 2-for-4 with a run and five RBIs.
