Cardinals Drop Second Game at NC State
April 01, 2023 | Baseball
Louisville took a 10-0 loss on Saturday in Raleigh.
RALEIGH, N.C. – The eighth-ranked University of Louisville baseball team lost its second consecutive game at NC State on Saturday night, dropping the middle game of the series 10-0.

Louisville (20-6, 3-5 ACC) has now lost consecutive games for just the second time this season.

The night began as a pitcher's duel with Greg Farone starting strong for the Cards. NC State (20-7, 5-6) hit a two-out solo home run in the first, but the southpaw quickly settled in.

Farone faced the minimum in the second and third innings and worked out of trouble to put zeros on the board in the fourth and fifth.

NC State knocked Farone out of the game with a double and single in the sixth before cashing in four runs in the frame to blow the game open. The Wolfpack then pushed five more runs across in the seventh.

Louisville's offense was held at bay on Saturday night, with the Cardinals not recording their first hit until the fifth. The Cards put a pair of runners on in the fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to get a run across before the Wolfpack broke things open.

Farone (1-2) finished the night with three runs allowed on five hits over 5.1 innings.

Louisville and NC State wrap up the weekend on Sunday with a noon ET first pitch. The series finale is scheduled to be televised on ESPNews.
