No. 23 Louisville Opens Conference Season

The Cardinals travel to No. 12 Virginia and RV Vanderbilt
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville lacrosse program opens Atlantic Coast Conference play as they travel to No. 12 Virginia on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET and a non-conference game at RV Vanderbilt on Monday at 2 p.m.
The Cardinals (2-1) won their lone matchup this weekend with a 14-7 win against Lindenwood. UofL jumped out to a 5-1 lead and outscored Lindenwood in each quarter. The Cards were led by a solid performance from two Cardinals. Nicole Perroni and Kokoro Nakazawa each scored four goals to move the Cards to 2-1 on the season. Perroni's four goals came in eight shots (five shots on goal) and the junior was 2-for-2 in free position shots. The Ontario-native added one groundball and two draw controls to the stat sheet. Nakazawa scored her first four goals of the season on four shots (four shots on goal) and had one assist.
Six other Cardinals recorded a goal. Allegra Catalano, Tiffany Natoli, and Abby Scully all scored their first goal of the season. Hannah Morris and Kylea Dobson also scored for the Cards. Four Cardinals recorded assists and UofL won the draw control battle 15-10. The Cards outshot the Lions 36-26 and had 10 saves to Lindenwood's nine.
Sara Addeche continued her stellar junior campaign. She played for 54:48 minutes, recording eight saves. She now has a season save percentage of .622 and a 5.84 goals against average.
About the Cavaliers
Virginia (3-0) stayed perfect on the season after a 20-11 victory at No. 17 Princeton on Saturday. Princeton scored the first four goals of the game but the Cavaliers quickly answered back outscoring their opponent in the second and their quarter. Sophomore attacker Rachel Clark scored six goals to lead the Cavaliers, with four other players finishing with a hat trick. Ashlyn McGovern had five goals and Mackenzie Hoeg and Kiki Shaw each scored three. Morgan Schwab had six points on a goal and five assists. Goalie Ashley Vernon made six saves for Virginia.
Series History – The Cardinals are looking for their first win against the Cavaliers in program history. UofL holds a 0-8 record against Virginia, including on 0-4 record on the road. In the last two matchups against the Cavaliers, Louisville has lost by one point. In 2021, the Cardinals fell to Virginia 12-13 and last season, UofL lost a heartbreaker at home 11-12.
About the Commodores
Vanderbilt (1-2) fell on Saturday 11-8 to Hofstra at home. Kemper Robinson tallied her second career hat trick and finished the game scoring four of Vanderbilt's eight goals. Hofstra jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Robinson scored half of her goals in the second quarter. Nancy Halleron leads the Commodores this season with six goals. Bri Gross has a team-high 10 draw controls with six ground balls and four goals. Paige Gunning has 14 of the 54 team ground balls. Gunning, the goalie for the Commodores, has played all 183:00 minutes and has 32 saves with a .500 save percentage. She has a goals against average of 10.49 on the season.
