LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 24 University of Louisville lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-1 lead and outscored Lindenwood in each quarter as they cruised to a 12-7 win over Lindenwood on Sunday afternoon at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
The win marks the Cardinals' second straight as they improve to 2-1 on the year, while the Lions fall to 1-2.
"We played for 60 minutes today," said head coach Scott Teeter. "We got off to a great start and really played well for four quarters today. I thought that we made some good adjustments. Lindenwood was a scrappy team. When they came out and switched things up, we were able to make the adjustments right away. All in all, very proud of our performance today."
Kylea Dobson got Louisville on the board less than three minutes into the game and two other Cardinals scored before Lindenwood earned a point. Allegra Catalano scored her first goal of the season at the 7:38-minute mark right before Tiffany Natoli notched her first goal of the season with five and a half minutes left in the first quarter. A goal from Lindenwood's Emma Arnold put the Lions on the board. UofL quickly answered back scoring two more before the end of the first quarter. A goal from Nicole Perroni and Kokoro Nakazawa pulled the Cards to 5-1 at the end of the first quarter.
To start the second quarter, Perroni scored twice more within 15 seconds to earn herself a hat trick. Nakazawa added in another goal to extend the Cardinals' lead 8-1 before Sara Grieco scored a second point for the Lions. Hannah Morris rocketed in a goal on a pass from Olivia Toll. Logann Eldredge scored twice for the Lions and the Cards went into the locker room at halftime with a 9-4 lead.
Perroni scored her fourth goal on a free position attempt less than three minutes into the second half. Lindenwood's Elisabeth Ralph notched in a goal with 11 minutes left but the Cardinals got the final goal of the third quarter with a goal from Nakazawa on an assist from Natoli to earn Nakazawa a hat trick and a 12-5 lead.
Thirty seconds into the fourth quarter, Abby Scully recorded her first goal of the season on a pass from Kylea Dobson. Nakazawa scored her fourth goal of the game at the 10:55-minute mark. The Lions scored a sixth goal from Sam Irwin, but Izzy Seikel got in the goal-scoring mix with nine minutes remaining in the game. Lindsey Smith scored the final goal of the game, but it was not enough for the Lions. Louisville took the win 14-7.
