Chaussee leads the way with 14 kills
MIAMI, Fla. -- Outside hitter Claire Chaussee had 14 kills to lead the No. 2-ranked University of Louisville to a 25-12, 26-24, 25-23 sweep of Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference opening match Friday night in Coral Gables.

With the win, the Cardinals (10-1, 1-0) extend their unbeaten streak in the ACC to 30 which is the nation's second-longest winning streak against conference opponents. The last team to beat Louisville was Pitt on Oct. 23, 2020.

Louisville hit .329 as a team with six aces and nine blocks. Filling in for All-American Anna DeBeer, outside hitter Nena Mbonu had eight kills on 11 swings to hit .636 and added a pair of blocks. Amaya Tillman had seven kills and six blocks. Setter Raquel Lazaro had 36 assists, an ace and three blocks. Aiko Jones was the second leading scorer with eight kills, an ace and three blocks.

Miami moves to 7-5 on the season as the Canes hit just .075 with four aces and six blocks. The Hurricane offense was led by Flormarie Heredia Colon, who had eight kills and two blocks. Janice Leao added five kills and four blocks.

The Cardinals head to Tallahassee for a Sunday match with the Seminoles that will be televised on ESPN at 3 p.m. ET. It will be Louisville's second regular appearance on the flagship station. Â

Set 1
In the first set, Elena Scott served for eight straight points as the Cardinals took a 9-1 lead. Â Aiko Jones served seven straight points for the Cards to add to that lead at 17-3. Miami could not recover and fell 25-12. UofL used .526 hitting with five blocks and four aces to beat the Canes in that set.

Set 2
Miami recovered from the sluggish start and put together a strong second set that saw 12 ties and five lead changes. Louisville seemed to have gained some breathing room late in the set when it had a two point lead at 23-21 but a kill by UM's Peyman Yardimci and a block by Leao tied the score at 23. A UM service error gave UofL set point at 24-23 but Leao landed a kill to tie at 24. Louisville middle Amaya Tillman had a kill to put the Cards back at set point at 25-24 and then Mbonu had the set point from the left side for the 26-24 win.  UofL hitting cooled to .258 in the set and Miami had its best hitting set of the three at .162. The third set saw the two teams tie 15 times with 10 lead changes as the Hurricanes tried to stave off the visiting Cardinals. Louisville had the slimmest of leads at the media timeout, leading 15-14. The two teams traded points until Louisville earned a little breathing room at 23-20 when Cardinal middle blocker Phekran Kong went on the offense with a kill. But Miami tied at 23, aided by a pair of hitting errors by Louisville. Chaussee took Louisville to match point at 24-23 and a hitting error by Yardimci gave the Cardinals the 25-23 set win and the match.
