Chaussee leads with 12 kills; Mbonu shines in start
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- In just her second start of the season, outside hitter Nena Mbonu had 10 kills, hitting .565, to lead the No. 2-ranked University of Louisville to a 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 sweep of Florida State in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action Sunday in Tully Gym.

Mbonu, filling in for injured All-American starter Anna DeBeer, had a season-high outing on offense for the Cards.
Louisville extends its unbeaten streak in ACC play to 31 straight matches and now stands at 11-1 overall and moves to 2-0 in ACC play. Claire Chaussee had a team-high 12 kills with an ace and two blocks. Phekran Kong had four kills and five blocks. Libero Elena Scott had 14 digs and an ace with setter Raquel Lazaro adding 32 assists and three blocks. The Cardinals hit .284 as a team with eight aces and 11 blocks.

Florida State hit .093 as a team and had three aces and five blocks. The Seminoles were paced by Audrey Koenig's 14 kills. Emily Ryan had seven kills and four blocks. FSU is now 9-4 and 1-1 in ACC play.

The win snapped FSU's home match winning streak at six.

The Cardinals return home to face Clemson on Friday night at 7 p.m. and then host Georgia Tech Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. on ESPN for the third time the Cards' have been televised on the flagship station.

Up three points at 14-11, the Cardinals reeled off five straight off the strength of Aiko Jones' serving run, which featured a pair of aces, to take a 19-11 lead. A service error by FSU gave the Cardinals set point at 24-17 before a kill by Claire Chaussee gave Louisville the 25-17 win. The Cards had three aces, three blocks in the set and hit .238.

Louisville popped out to a 4-0 lead in the second stanza but the Seminoles came within one at 11-10 as part of a 5-0 run. After Coach Busboom Kelly called timeout, the Noles continued to press the Cards, tying at 13 and taking the lead at 15-14 on a Louisville ball handling error. The Cardinals retook the lead for good at 17-16 on an ace by Amaya Tillman. UofL reached set point on an error by Andjelija Draskovic and then a kill by Claire Chaussee ended the set at 25-20 to give the Cardinals a 2-0 set lead going into the break.

The Cardinals did not get the lead in the third set until 12-11, when Claire Chaussee scored. The Seminoles stayed within two points of the lead until a 4-0 run by the Cards put UofL up 22-18. But FSU was not done and when Emma Clothier ripped two consecutive aces to pull within one at 22-21, the Cards called timeout to regroup. The timeout worked as FSU did not score again and a kill by Jones and a pair of kills by Chaussee gave UofL the 25-21 set and match win.
