Cardinals Tally 10-3 Win over Eastern Kentucky

Louisville won its seventh straight game at Jim Patterson Stadium on Tuesday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The seventh-ranked University of Louisville baseball team cruised to a 10-3 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (36-15-1) has now won seven straight on its home field as it prepares for its final three games of the regular season against Virginia. The final regular season series begins on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.
Jack Payton got the Cardinals rolling on Tuesday, going the other way for a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. Two innings later, Ben Metzinger got in on the act with a two-run shot of his own. It was the third of the season for Payton and the 16th for Metzinger.
Eastern Kentucky (33-18) plated its first run of the night in the fourth, but the Cards had an immediate answer.
Ben Bianco, Noah Smith and Metzinger had three consecutive run-scoring singles in the bottom of the fourth to stretch the lead out to 7-1.
Louisville added two more runs in the seventh with a RBI double from Tyeler Hawkins and a RBI single from Isaac Humphrey, and then capped the scoring with a bases loaded walk to Hawkins in the eighth.
The Cardinals scored double-digit runs for the 20th time this season and reached double figures in hits for the 31st time.
Metzinger was 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Cardinals, while Smith, Payton and Humphrey each had two tallies.
Tate Kuehner (6-3) picked up the victory as one of nine pitchers who took the mound for Louisville on Tuesday. Kuehner struck out three over 1.2 scoreless innings with Garrett Schmeltz tossing two scoreless and Adam Dowler adding a scoreless frame.
