Cards Defeat Virginia 9-4 to Clinch Series

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Carmyn Greenwood went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and a home run, scoring three and driving in two to lead the University of Louisville softball team to a 9-4 win over Virginia in the deciding game of an ACC series Sunday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium.

The Cardinals (26-21, 10-11 ACC) will return to action on Wednesday when they hit the road to face UIC in a midweek game before closing the season at Notre Dame in an three-game ACC series.

Greenwood's productive day at the plate was part of a 10-hit performance for Louisville, eight of the Cardinals' hits fell in for extra bases. Korbe Otis also homered while Kendall Smith, Hannah File, and Dylann Cravens connected on a double.

Taja Felder (2-3) picked up the win, after giving up one earned run on three hits and striking out two in 3.1 innings of relief.

Louisville jumped on the scoreboard with three runs in the first, staring with Greenwood's leadoff shot over the left field fence, extending her season total to 14. Roby walked and Smith doubled to set the table for Cravens' two-run double.

The Cavaliers capitalized on three hits, two walks and a pair of errors to score three unearned runs in the fourth and tie the game at 3-3.

The Cards got the runs back and more in the home half of the fourth. With two outs in the inning, Vanessa Miller was hit by a pitch, and Jenna Servi singled. Greenwood followed with an RBI double to put two runners on for Otis, who crushed a three-run shot over the left field wall for her fifth homer of the season to put her team back on top 7-3.

Louisville's offense continued in the sixth when Greenwood led off with her sixth triple of the season and crossed the plate on Roby's RBI hit. Hannah File's sacrifice fly sent Roby home to make the score 9-3.

Virginia used back-to-back doubles by Katie Goldberg and Gabby Baylog to add another run, but Felder got a groundout and a strikeout to end the game.

- With her home run in Sunday's game, Carmyn Greenwood now has a career-best 14 on the season and moves into a tie for the team lead with Taylor Roby. Both Greenwood and Roby are tied for fourth on Louisville's single season home run list. They need two more to move into a tie with Melissa Roth for second. Courtney Moore owns the record with 17 home runs in the 2005 campaign.
- Greenwood has also produced a career-high 52 RBIs this year and is tied for sixth on Louisville's single season list with Megan Hensley (2016) and Taner Fowler (2012).
