CHICAGO – The University of Louisville softball team used a late-inning offensive burst to defeat host UIC 12-3 Wednesday evening at Flames Field.

Taylor Roby picked up her career-best 15th win of the season in the circle. The redshirt senior also blasted her career-best 15th homer of the season and drove in three runs to extend her season RBI total to 45 – also a career high.

The Cardinals (27-21) jumped to an early lead in the first inning when Korbe Otis reached on a fielder's choice and eventually scored on an RBI hit by Smith.

The Cardinals capitalized on two hits and an error to plate two more runs in the fourth. Dylann Cravens reached on a fielding miscue and took second on a wild pitch. Miller's infield single put runners on the corners and Cravens crossed the plate on another wild pitch. Jenni Servi's RBI hit sent Miller home to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.Â

The Flames (11-31) broke through with a run in the home half of the fourth. Tara McElligott was hit by a pitch and scored when Grace Fleming connected on UIC's first hit of the game, an RBI double to right centerfield.

The Cardinals countered with four runs in the fifth. Hannah File reached on a one-out walk, Cravens singled and Ally Alexander's fielder's choice loaded the bases for Miller who ripped a triple to right field and then scored on an error to extend Louisville's lead to 7-1.

UIC got two runs back in the home half of the fifth with RBI singles by Tara McElligott and Dee Dee Caskey to make the score 7-3.

Louisville's offense continued with Roby's three-run homer in the seventh. Servi reached on a fielder's choice and Carmyn Greenwood followed with a double to set the table for Roby who crushed a shot over straight center field for her team-best 15th home run on the season.

Roby (15-8), who did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, gave up three earned runs on three hits and struck out three in 5.0 innings of work. Sam Booe was solid in relief, retiring all six batters she faced with one strikeout in 2.0 innings.

In addition to Roby's offensive numbers, Vanessa Miller went 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and scored twice. Kendall Smith had two hits including a double and three RBIs and Carmyn Greenwood had two hits including her team-best 17th double of the season and scored a pair of runs.

Alyssa McIntosh (3-5) took the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned, on six hits and striking out one in 4 2/3 innings.

- With her home run in Wednesday's game, Roby now has a career-high 15 on the season and stands fourth on Louisville's single season list. She needs one more to move into a tie for second with Melissa Roth (2009 and 2010). Courtney Moore owns the record with 17 home runs in the 2005 season.
- Roby also extends her career home run total to 40 and stands second on Louisville's all-time list, needing two more to tie the school record of 42 set by Courtney Moore (2004-07)
- After scoring two runs in Wednesday's game, Carmyn Greenwood extends her career-best season total to 54. She stands fourth on Louisville's single season list and needs five more to move into a tie for third with Melissa Roth (2010).
- Greenwood leads the team with 23 multi-hit games.
- Roby leads the team with 15 multi-RBI games.
