Louisville Travels to UIC for Midweek Matchup

The University of Louisville softball team will hit the road for the final four games of the regular season this week starting with a midweek contest at UIC on Wednesday. The Cardinals will then travel to Notre Dame for a three-game ACC series May 6-8.
LOUISVILLE NOTES
• The Cardinals bring a 26-21 overall record into the game after taking two of three games against Virginia at Ulmer Stadium last weekend. Louisville also carries an 10-11 mark in ACC play and is currently seventh in league standings.
• Louisville is led offensively by current ACC Softball Player of the Week, graduate senior Carmyn Greenwood who is hitting at a .415 clip and is tied for first in the ACC with 66 hits. She also paces the league with 52 runs, is second with 52 RBIs.
• With her home run in Sunday's game, Carmyn Greenwood now has a career-best 14 on the season and moves into a tie for the team lead with Taylor Roby. Both Greenwood and Roby are tied for fourth on Louisville's single season home run list. They need two more to move into a tie with Melissa Roth for second. Courtney Moore owns the record with 17 home runs in the 2005 campaign.
• Entering the week, Carmyn Greenwood stands second in the NCAA in triples with seven and fourth in total bases. She is also ranked in the top 20 in hits, doubles, slugging percentage, runs per game and RBIs.
• Redshirt senior RHP Taylor Roby has shouldered the bulk of the pitching duties and holds a 3.22 ERA with 104 strikeouts in 152.1 innings of work. Roby has 39 career homers and needs three more to tie Louisville's career home run record of 42 set by Courtney Moore (2004-07).
• Otis has reached base safely via a hit or walk in the last nine games.
• Ally Alexander has reached safely in the last six games.
• Louisville leads the ACC and stands 16th in the nation with 23 double plays turned.
• The Cardinals starting lineup frequently features four freshmen.
• Louisville was picked to finish sixth in the ACC in a preseason vote by the league's head coaches.
• Carmyn Greenwood was selected to the Preseason All-ACC Softball team.
THE APRILE ERA
• Holly Aprile is in her fourth season as UofL's head coach. With the 2020 campaign suspended prior to its midway point due to the outbreak of COVID-19, Aprile has compiled a 92-84-1 record and guided the Cardinals to an NCAA regional final appearance in 2019.
• Prior to her arrival at Louisville, Aprile, the 2018 ACC Coach of the Year spent 10 seasons (2009-18) as Pittsburgh's head coach and five years (2004-08) as an assistant. In 2018, she earned ACC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Panthers to the 2018 ACC Coastal Division title and a runner-up finish in the ACC tournament.
