Cards Fall at No. 3/3 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Louisville softball team fell 3-0 to No. 3/3 Virginia Tech in game two of an ACC series at Tech Softball Field Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals (24-19, 8-9 ACC) and the Hokies (35-6, 17-2) will wrap up the three-game set Sunday at 12 p.m. in an ACC Network-televised game.

Offense was limited in a game which featured a combined seven hits, four for Virginia Tech and three for Louisville. Korbe Otis, Kendall Smith and Jenna Servi each had a hit for the Cards. Taja Felder (1-2) took the loss after giving up two earned runs on one hit and striking out two in 3.0 innings. Sam Booe surrendered one earned run on three this and fanned four in 3.0 innings of work.

The teams played through two and a half scoreless innings before the Hokies broke through with a pair of runs behind Bre Peck's two-run single in the bottom of the third.

Virginia Tech extended the Hokies' lead to 3-0 with Emma Ritter's two-out RBI double in the fourth.

Louisville's best chance to score came in the sixth when Ally Alexander earned a leadoff walk and moved to third on Jenna Servi's single through the right side to put runners on the corners and bring the potential tying run to the plate, but Virginia Tech pitcher Emma Lemley retired the next three batters to end the threat.

Lemley (14-4) went the distance to get the win in the circle, scattering three hits and striking out 11.
