Cardinals Stumble at No. 16/15 Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Louisville fell to No. 16/15 Clemson 8-0 Saturday at McWhorter Stadium. The Cardinals drop to 17-12 (1-4 ACC) while the Tigers move to 21-9 (3-5). The teams will meet in the series finale Sunday at 12 p.m. in an ACC Network televised game.

Clemson used an RBI single by Sam Russ and Alla Logoleo's two-run homer to take a 3-0 lead in the second. Homers by McKenzie Clark and Valerie Cagle helped extend the lead to 6-0 in the third. The Tigers tacked on two more runs behind Clark's second homer of the game and Aby Viera's RBI single brought the final score to 8-0.

The Cardinals had scoring opportunities early in the game starting in the first inning when freshman Ally Alexander walked and moved to third on Taylor Roby's two-out double, but 2021 ACC Player of the Year Valerie Cagle dealt a strikeout to end the threat.

Louisville had another runner in scoring position in the second when sophomore Vanessa Miller singled and stole second and a walk to freshman Maddy Grant put two runners on, but the Cards could not capitalize.

Chardonnay Harris (6-6) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits and striking out one in 2.1 innings.

Cagle (8-6) picked up the complete game shutout, scattering two hits and striking out seven.

NOTES:
- Saturday's loss marks the third time the Cardinals have been shut out this season and the first since March 8 in an 8-0 loss to Illinois. After that loss, Louisville put together a nine-game win streak.
- Freshman Ally Alexander has reached base safely via a hit or walk in 12 straight games
- Freshman Dylann Cravens has reached base safely via a hit or walk in the last eight games
