March 18, 2022 | Softball
Â
The Cardinals (17-8, 1-0 ACC) and the Yellow Jackets (16-9, 0-7) will meet again on Saturday at 4 p.m. in an ACC Network-televised matchup.
Â
Miller finished the game with a double and her first collegiate grand slam to go along with a career-high four RBIs. Freshman Korbe Otis had a home run and three RBIs in the game. Taylor Roby (7-3) picked up the win in the circle after surrendering two runs, one earned, on three hits and striking out three in 2.2 innings of relief.
Â
The teams played through three scoreless innings before Georgia Tech broke through with a six-spot in the fourth. Back-to-back two-out solo home runs by Tricia Awald and Caroline Davis. The Yellow Jackets used three more hits, a walk and a wild pitch to plate four more runs and take a 6-0 lead.
Â
Louisville began to chip away in the home half of the fifth when singles by Dylann Cravens and Jenna Servi set the table for Otis' two-out, three-run homer which cut the lead in half. After a base hit by Roby, Kendall Smith followed with her eighth homer of the season, pulling the Cards within a run.
Â
The Cardinals' offense continued with six more runs in the sixth. With one out in the inning, Carmyn Greenwood smashed a solo shot over the left field fence to even the score at 6-6. The Cards capitalized on two errors and a walk to load the bases. Another Yellow Jacket miscue saw Otis safe at the plate to put Louisville on top 7-6, and kept the bases loaded for Miller who stepped up to the plate and connected on her second homer of the season, extending the lead to 11-6.
Â
Georgia Tech countered with a pair of runs in the seventh and had the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate, but Roby delivered a strikeout to end the game.
Â
Sileo paced the Yellow Jackets at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Blake Neleman (10-5) took the loss after giving up seven runs, two earned, on four hits and striking out two in one inning of relief.
