LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A trio of hat tricks from Caroline Blalock, Nicole Perroni and Hannah Morris powered University of Louisville lacrosse past Virginia Tech 14-11 on Saturday at UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
Â
"The girls played excellent right from the start to the finish," said Louisville head coach Scott Teeter. "Virginia Tech gave us a game. They battled all the way through but we made some key plays at key moments to get the win."
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 3-2 on the year, while the Hokies fall to 2-3.
Â
Louisville found itself down 3-1 early, but scored three of the next four goals, including two from Perroni, to even the game at 4-4.Â
Â
The Hokies scored the next two goals to go back up 6-4, but the Cards battled back once again, tying the game with four seconds left on a heavily guarded goal from Allegra Catalano as they headed into the locker room tied 6-6.
Â
Morris notched her second goal of the day to open the second half scoring, followed shortly by Paige Richbourg's second goal as the Cardinals took their first lead of the game. From there, Louisville would continue to push the pace, scoring six more goals in the half.
Â
Blalock's goal at the 4:06 mark in the third quarter marked the 3,000th goal in Louisville lacrosse's 15-year history.
Â
UofL continued its streak of winning the draw for the fifth straight game, beating Virginia Tech 20-8. Madi McKee led the team with eight draw controls.
Â
Louisville outshot the Hokies 24-17 and had 20 shots on goal to Virginia Tech's 17.
