Louisville Cruises to 22-8 Win Over Butler
March 01, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
Hannah Morris led the way with four goals on six shots, while Nicole Perroni and Catalano finished with three goals each.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville lacrosse jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led 8-1 after the first quarter as they cruised to a 22-8 win over Butler on Tuesday afternoon at UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
Â
The win marks the Cardinals' fourth straight as they improve to 4-2 on the year, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-2.
Â
"I thought we played relatively well from goaltender all the way out to our attack," said head coach Scott Teeter. "We got off to a fantastic start. We had a little bit of a lull in the second quarter, but it was good to get everyone in the game today."
Allegra Catalano got Louisville on the board a minute-and-a-half in and scored again a few minutes later as the Cardinals led 4-0 with just under 10 minutes to go in the first quarter. Butler scored to pull within 4-1, but Louisville answered with four more goals to end the quarter with an 8-1 lead.
Â
The Bulldogs scored twice to open the second quarter to make the score 8-3 and the Cardinals went into the locker room at halftime with a 14-6 lead.
Â
Louisville then outscored Butler 8-2 in the second half and cruised to the 22-8 win.
Â
Hannah Morris led the way with four goals on six shots, while Nicole Perroni and Catalano finished with three goals each. Caroline Blalock, Isabella Rulapaugh and Bella Karstien had two goals.
Â
Rulapaugh, Izzy Seikel, Haley Reeck, Abby Scully and Kristen Pezzullo all scored the first goal of their Louisville career in the win.
Â
The 22 goals are the fourth most in a game in Louisville program history, while the four-game winning streak is their first since 2016.
Â
The Cardinals finished with 42 shots, 31 on goal, while Butler had 18 shots with 11 on goal. Louisville won the draw control battle for the sixth consecutive game, 17-15.
Â
Louisville closes its five-game homestand against No. 1 Boston College on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
