
Louisville Opens ACC Slate Against Virginia Tech on Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse continues its homestand with its ACC Opener this Saturday, taking on Virginia Tech at UofL Lacrosse Stadium. The game is set for 12 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Last week, Louisville won back-to-back games by nine-plus goals, defeating Marquette 18-9 and Central Michigan 18-7. It marks the first time since 2018 when the Cards did it three games in a row against Butler (2/22, W, 20-4), Coastal Carolina (2/24, W, 16-7) and Vanderbilt (2/27, W, 17-5). It also marks the first time since March 12/14, 2019 UofL scored 18 goals in back-to-back games, defeating Duquesne 23-13 and Cincinnati 18-12.

The Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start at home this season. With a win against Virginia Tech on Saturday, Louisville could move to 3-0 at home to start the season for the first time since 2017 when the Cards got off to a 6-0 start at UofL Lacrosse Stadium.Â

Louisville has won the draw in each of its four games this season after only winning in three games all season in 2021. Averaging 17.25 draws per game, the Cards have not recorded less than 17 draw controls in a game this season and are winning the battle 69-50 overall.Â

Junior transfer Madi McKee tallied 13 draw controls vs. Central Michigan, which is tied for the sixth most in program history and is the most in school history for a player not named Kaylin Morissettte. Morissette, in her fifth season as an assistant coach at UofL, holds the all-time record with 18 draw controls at Longwood on 3/25/15 and recorded 13-plus draw controls nine times in her career.

ABOUT THE HOKIES
The Hokies are off to a 2-2 start this season, including a 10-9 win at No. 13 James Madison. Last season, Virginia Tech finished with a 5-11 record, 1--8 in the ACC. VT enters Saturday's game off a 14-13 overtime to loss to Liberty. Sophie Student leads the Hokies with 10 goals and 22 draw controls and is second on the team with 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers. Sarah Lubnow leads the team with 16 points on 8 goals and a team-high 8 assists. The Hokies goalkeeper, Morgan Berman, has 33 saves in four games, notching 10 in the team's overtime loss to Liberty on Wednesday.

Last Meeting (April 3, 2021)Â - Ally Hall led the way with a career-high tying five goals as No. 18 Louisville won 13-9 at Virginia Tech. The Cardinals never trailed in the game and scored five of the first six goals to open the second half with a 12-5 lead. Caroline Blalock had three goals, two assists, four caused turnovers, three ground balls and three draw controls.
