
Louisville Welcomes Marquette Friday in Home Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse welcomes Marquette to UofL Lacrosse Stadium in its home opener this Friday. The game is set for 12 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
Free pizza and hot chocolate will be given out to the first 75 fans in attendance as well as free schedule posters for all fans. Admission to UofL Lacrosse Stadium is free.Â
The Cardinals are coming off a 19-9 loss at No. 14 Denver on Sunday. After giving up 10 goals in the first quarter, Louisville's defense settled in to limit the Pioneers to just nine goals over the final three quarters, but couldn't produce enough offense to overcome the early deficit.

Junior Nicole Perroni has seven goals on 14 shots in the first two games this season. She also has eight draw controls. She had a career-high five goals on nine shots in the season-opener at Colorado and followed that with two goals at Denver. She entered the season with 10 goals and 11 draw controls in 18 games for her career.

Louisville is winning the draw control battle after two games, 34-27. They won the draw 17-14 at Colorado and then 17-13 at Denver. Madi McKee leads the Cards with 13 draw controls and had a team-high nine at Denver.

Louisville is 11-3 in home openers and its seven-game winning streak came to a close with a 15-6 loss to Denver in 2020. Last season, the Cardinals fell 12 -9 to No. 8 Florida in the season opener at UofL Lacrosse Stadium on Feb. 13, 2021.

The Golden Eagles are coming off a 2021 campaign which saw them go 7-9 overall and 4-6 in BIG EAST play, finishing the year tied for fourth and missing the conference tournament on a tiebreaker. They were picked fifth in the year's BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. Lydia Foust, a midfielder, is the only senior among the four captains. She is coming off a season which saw her earn All-BIG EAST First Team honors in 2021. Ellie Henry started all but one game in 2021 and ranks eighth all-time in draw controls with 69 in her career. Marquette opened this season with a 16-13 win over Cincinnati before falling 24-13 at No. 5 Northwestern on Monday.

Series History -Â Louisville is 7-1 all-time against Marquette and 5-0 at UofL Lacrosse Stadium. The Cardinals' lone loss in the series is a 15-12 defeat at Marquette on Feb. 10, 2019.

Last Meeting (March 14, 2021) -Â Ally Hall led the way with a career-high five goals as No. 19 Louisville overcame an early deficit and cruised to a 14-10 win at Marquette. The Cardinals trailed 4-1 early but rattled off six straight goals and led the rest of the way. Hannah Morris had three goals.
