
Morris, Louisville Run Past Marquette, 18-9

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse used an aggressive offensive attack to pick up its first win of the season, an 18-9 victory over Marquette at UofL Lacrosse Stadium Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Cardinals move to 1-2 on the season as the Golden Eagles fall to 1-2.

"We worked really well together today," said senior Hannah Morris. "We've done a really good job preparing and capitalizing in practice. I trust every single one of the players on the field with the ball and it's awesome seeing everyone succeeding and scoring goals."
Louisville jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead and never looked back. Tiffany Natoli got the Cards on the board first, netting her first career goal on a free-position shot.

The Cardinals went into the half with a 12-6 lead, scoring six goals in each of the first two quarters with Hannah Morris, Caroline Blalock, Nicole Perroni and Kokoro Nakazawa recording two goals each. UofL outshot Marquette 22-13 in the first half.

Morris opened the second half scoring with her third goal of the game as the Cardinals continued to pressure the Golden Eagles' defense. The Cards scored two more goals before Marquette answered with one of its own.Â

Nakazawa converted a free-position attempt with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter to register her first career hat trick before Morris fired in her fourth of the game one minute later to put Louisville up 17-7 heading into the final period of play.

Allegra Catalano recorded the Cards' only goal of the final period as they cruised to an 18-9 victory.

Morris had a team-high four goals with one assist. Nakazawa was second on the team with three goals, while Caroline Blalock, Nicole Perroni, Allegra Catalano and Paige Richbourg added two goals each.Â

Overall, nine Cardinals got on the board as they outshot the Golden Eagles, 39-22.

Louisville won the draw control battle for the third straight game, outdrawing Marquette 17-13. Rachel Lifson and Paige Richbourg led the team with four draw controls each.Â

The Cardinals recovered 22 ground balls to Marquette's 11, while also converting 7-of-14 free positions, limiting the Golden Eagles to just 2-of-4.

Louisville continues its homestand on Sunday when they take on Central Michigan at 11 a.m. ET.
