Cardinals Make Most of First Chance at 2024 Trials at U.S. Open

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville Cardinals took their first step in fulfilling their Olympic dreams last weekend at the U.S. Open. In all, six Cardinals punched their tickets to the 2024 Olympic Trials.

The qualifying period for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials opened at last weekend's U.S. Open which was competed at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro.

The 2024 Olympic Trials will take place June 15-23, 2024 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Here is a round-up of the Cardinals' swims at the Open.
Gabi Albiero

Gabi qualified first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.11. In the A-final, she won gold, posting a time of 55.82. That punches her ticket to the US Olympic Trials in 2024.
Gabi qualified second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.27. She won bronze in the A-final with a 59.06 which sends her to the 2024 Trials.
Gabi qualified first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.26 and then won gold in the A-final with a time of 25.06 to qualify for the Trials.

Nicolas Albiero

Cardinal Forever Nicolas Albiero qualified first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:57.06. He won gold in the A-final with a time of 1:56.06 to punch his ticket to the 2024 Olympic Trials.
Nick qualified third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.51 and then was seventh in the A-final to qualify for the Trials.

Andrej Barna

Cardinal Forever Andrej Barna qualified first in the 100 free, posting a 48.61. In the A-final, he won gold, boarding a 48.45.

Michael Eastman

Senior Michael Eastman qualified 14^th in the 100 freestyle with a tinem of 50.13 and won the B-final, going 49.64 to punch his ticket to the US Olympic Trials in 2024.

Zach Harting

Zach qualified second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:57.20 and won silver in the A-final with a itme of 1:57.06.
Zach qualified first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.99. In the A-final, he won bronze with a 52.52.

Denis Loktev

Denis finished 27^th in the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:01.65.
In the 200 freestyle, Denis qualified seventh with a 1:49.68 to advance to the A-final, where he was sixth, turning in a 1:49.43.
Loktev was 17^th in the prelims of the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.44 to advance to the B-final where he was eighth with a 50.50.

Gustavo Saldo

Gustavo qualified 19^th in the 400 freestyle with a 3:59.64. He swam in the C-final, going 4:05.37.
In the 100 butterfly, Gus qualified 15^th with a time of 54.16, then went 54.23 for seventh in the B-final.
Gustavo qualified 21^st in the 200 freestule with a time of 1:52.56 to advance to the C-final, where he was eighth, going 1:54.85.
In the 200 fly, Saldo was sixth in prelims with a 2:01.70 to move into the A-final, where he was seventh with a time of 2:03.07.

Daniel Sos

In the 200 IM, Cardinal Forever Daniel Sos qualified 4^th with a time of 2:01.31 and was eighth in the A-final, going 2:03.94.

Rye Ulett

Rye qualified seventh in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:14.64 and was seventh in the A-final with a time of 2:13.26 to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Trials.
Rye qualified eighth in the 100 back with a 1:01.64 and was eighth in the A-final with a 1:01.75.
In the 200 IM, Rye qualified 23^rd with a 2:20.06 and was third in the C-final, going 2:18.47.
In the 400 IM, Rye was 20^th in prelims with a time of 5:00.09.

Tristen Ulett

Tristen qualified fifth in the 100 free with a time of 55.96. In the A-final, she touched sixth in 55.82.
Tristen qualified eighth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.15 and then was seventh in the A-Final with a time of 1:00.07 to qualify for the 2024 US Olympic Trials.
In the 200 IM, Tristen qualified 11^th with a 2:17.93 and was eighth in the B-final with a time of 2:17.96.
In the 200 butterfly, Tristen was 13^th in the prelims with a time of 2:17.88.
