Cardinals Continue Homestand Against Boston College
October 08, 2022 | Women's Soccer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is back in action for a Sunday matinee matchup that is set to air on national TV. The Cardinals are set to square off with Boston College at noon on Sunday and the matchup will be aired on ACC Network. It is the second game of a three game homestand for the Cardinals.
Heading into the 2022 campaign, the Cardinals had an influx of new faces to the roster as 15 total newcomers were on the squad. They had 13 total freshmen (two redshirt freshmen) and four transfers (one of the two redshirt freshmen) and a lot of the newcomers have seen action and made impacts so far.
In the most recent match against Clemson, transfer Patricia Ward tallied her first goal as a Cardinal and the fourth of her career with the strike in the second minute. It was the fastest goal to start a match for the Cardinals since 2019 when Taylor Kerwin scored in the opening minute against Dayton. Freshman Addie Chester had one of the two assists on Ward's goal, her second assist of the season. Fellow transfer Madison Ellsworth earned her first start with the Cardinals and was the 12th newcomer to see action so far this season.
Louisville is missing one of its key cogs in defense as sophomore Anouk Denton is currently in England training with the U23 women's national team. She was selected for the training camp that began on Oct. 3 and will last until Oct. 11. England is preparing for two international matches during the camp against European foes. Denton came off the bench on Oct. 6 when England fell 2-0 against Norway. The final match of the camp will occur on Oct. 10 when England plays Sweden. Before heading across the pond, Denton had started in all 10 games for the Cardinals and played all 90 minutes in each game.
