October 06, 2022 | Men's Soccer
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Notre Dame.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 11th-ranked University of Louisville soccer team heads north to take on Notre Dame on Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The match will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville picked up a 1-0 victory at NC State last Friday night to extend its unbeaten streak to five matches, its longest unbeaten streak since reeling off five straight wins last September. David Boccuzzo scored the lone goal of the match, tallying the game-winner for his first collegiate goal.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville and Notre Dame meet for the 23rd time on Saturday night with the Cards trailing the all-time series 8-13-2. The two sides met in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 ACC Championship, with the Irish advancing via penalty kicks after the match was scoreless through 110 minutes.
The Louisville-Notre Dame series has been dominated by the home team. The home team is unbeaten in the last 15 matches between the two programs played at a home site, with the last road victory coming by the Irish in 2006. The Cardinals are 0-10-0 all-time at Notre Dame.
CARDS CONSISTENTLY IN CLOSE CONTESTS
Louisville opened the 2022 season with 3-1 and 3-0 victories over Saint Louis and Bellarmine, respectively.
However, each of the last eight matches has been decided by one goal or less. The Cardinals are 4-2-2 during that stretch, including a five-match (3-0-2) unbeaten streak heading into Saturday's match at Notre Dame.
CARDS SHOWING OFF ROSTER DEPTH
John Michael Hayden spoke many times in the preseason about his team's depth entering 2022 and the Cardinals have displayed it as we approach the halfway point.
Sixteen different players have started a match for the Cards and eight of Louisville's 17 goals this season have come from players that did not start the contest.
LOUISVILLE FRESHMEN MAKING INSTANT IMPACT IN 2022
John Michael Hayden and the Louisville coaching staff added another top 25 recruiting class this summer. The group included eight freshmen, several of which have already seen extensive playing time.
The quartet of Damien Barker John, Quinton Elliot, Filip Fredhall and Konstantinos Georgallides have combined to make 28 starts through 10 matches, while David Boccuzzo has taken on a larger role in the Louisville midfield.
Georgallides is the team leader with eight points, while Barker John has four. Georgallides assisted on the game-winner against Seattle and then scored the winning tally off an assist from Elliot to down No. 8 Pitt, while Boccuzzo's first collegiate goal was the game-winner at NC State.
