October 08, 2022 | Men's Soccer
Louisville extended its unbeaten streak to six with the win on Saturday.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The 11th-ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team tallied a pair of second half goals on its way to a 2-0 victory at Notre Dame on Saturday evening.
The win extends Louisville's unbeaten streak to six matches, the longest for the program since September of 2018, when it also had a streak of six unbeaten.
Saturday's victory was also the first in 11 tries all-time for the Cardinals at Notre Dame. Louisville had lost each of its first 10 matches on the road against the Irish.
The opening half on Saturday was relatively quiet as there were just four shots between the two teams through the first 38 minutes. Notre Dame (5-5-1, 2-3-0 ACC) finished the first half with a 6-1 edge in shots, including a pair of dangerous chances in close with five minutes remaining.
However, the Louisville (7-2-2, 3-1-1) defense, led by Ryan Troutman in goal, stood tall and kept the match scoreless through 45 mintues.
The Cardinals broke through early in the second half, finding the back of the net in the 58th minute. Quinton Elliot played a diagonal pass into the box that Sander Roed touched back into the center. Konstantinos Georgallides was on the receiving end of the passing sequence and slotted it high under the crossbar for the match's first goal.
The goal was the team-leading fourth for Georgallides and the sixth assist for Roed, also a team high.
The match remained at 1-0 until Louisville found some insurance in the 81st minute. Bradley Sample lofted a pass into the center of the box and Brandon McManus used his head to redirect the pass inside the left post for his third goal of the year.
Ryan Troutman stood tall all night in goal, pushing aside the two shots on target he faced. Troutman has allowed just two goals in the five matches he's started, recording three shutouts.
Louisville will now return home for a four-match homestand that will wrap up the home portion of its regular season schedule. The Cardinals will host Evansville on Tuesday with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
